  1. Every time i try to start a encoding session to change a .avi to a mp2 file as soon as i hit the start button i get the famous error report box in windows xp it does this when i try to convert any file type to another has anyone else had this problem ?

  2. Umm, which error report box are you getting? Is it the illegal opperation one? If you can describe the exact error message, maybe I can be of some help.

  3. its the one that always ask to send a report back to microsoft,it doesnt give any error codes or anything .

  5. Since I am not entirely familiar with all the workings of XP, I take it that the "Send Information to Microsoft" box has replaced the "Illegal Operation" box. What you might want to do is completely uninstall/reinstall your TMPGEnc. When reinstalling, make sure that all virus scans and other programs working in the background (I don't know if Alt, Ctrl, Delete still brings up the Close Program box or not in XP, but if it does, shut down all but Explorer and Systray).

    What I am assuming is that when you installed TMPGEnc, the program did not install properly. This is usually due to virus scans and/or other programs running in the background. A second thought is that the TMPGEnc program that you got is messed-up before installation. A third thought is that XP does not support the files that TMPGEnc, but I do believe that other users of the OS also use TMPGEnc.

    One last note. I also assume (I do that a lot) that you are trying to convert an avi to mpg-2, not mp2, which is an audio file.
