Possible answers:
Bad player - Your player is really old, circa early 2000's https://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers/jvc-xv-s42/685#commentsand the DVD laser may be dying. This is the most likely since you're able to play the disc in another player.
Bad burner - Your burner just as old and again, the laser may be dying or incompatible with your discs.
Bad discs - Your Packard Bell discs are also old and were marginal quality at best. Even unopened, writable DVDs can go bad. As for Verbatim, what type of Verbatims? If they don't say AZO on the packaging or on the disc, it's marginal at best.
Bad burn speed - According to this page https://www.cnet.com/reviews/toshiba-sd-r5002-dvd-r-rw-kit-review/, your burner writes at 2X max, slow even for when it was new. If your Verbatims are new (8X or 16X), while may be possible to write at 2X, it's below the specs which requires at least 4X or 6X burn speed. The general rule is to write at 1/2 the max burn rating of your disc.
Bad burning software - If you're using anything but Imgburn, your software may be at fault.
Bad burn - What are your computer specs? If your computer is as old as your other equipment, you may be suffering from buffer underruns, where the burner is waiting for the data to be feed to the disc. Your can check for this by looking at the burned surface of your disc. The burned area should a smooth continuous light purple. If there's banding, that means the burn was interrupted by buffer underruns.
Best solution for the future - Toss your Packard Bell discs, they were never good to begin with and they're really old. If your Verbatims aren't AZO, toss them also and get some AZO discs (the only remaining good discs other than Taiyo Yudens which are very hard to find and more expensive). Upgrade your burner or use another one if you have it. As I stated above, it wasn't a quality drive even when it was new. You can continue to use your JVC player, but keep in mind that even if the DVD laser is still good, the electronics are slowly dying, even if you don't use the player frequently.Last edited by lingyi; 27th Jul 2019 at 07:04.
