  1. I ask because I've had to reinstall my OS. MeGUI is portable, as you know, so is an easy install. I used to have Avisynth as well but it occurred to me that I may not need it as long as I can get MeGUI to do all that I need. One of those needs is QTGMC - is it possible to add it to MeGUI? And, if so, what are the steps? Many thanks indeed.

Isn't QTGMC an avisynth function? How is it going to work without avisynth?
The same goes for a bunch of other stuff MeGui uses, I'm sure.

  3. AFAIK MeGUI comes with a portable AviSynth version nowadays in case there isn't one installed.

QTGMC is a script for AviSynth with a lot of decencies on different plugins (which in turn may have dependencies on e.g. MS runtimes). It can be quite complicated to get everything needed. Here you can find links for everything needed (incl. the QTGMC script itself):

Personally, I would just install latest AviSynth or AviSynth+. Belongs on every video encoders PC and doesn't pollute the OS much.

  4. I'd definitely install Avisynth. The only program that can use MeGUI's portable Avisynth is MeGUI, whereas if you have Avisynth installed you can open scripts with other programs.

Avisynth also has an auto-loading plugins folder, and if you put plugins and avsi scripts in that folder they'll load automatically whenever Avisynth runs, and that includes MeGUI's portable version (it checks for the same "installed" plugins folder). That way you can put the QTGMC script and the plugins it requires in the auto-loading plugins folder and use QTGMC without having to load all the plugins manually in each script.
