Most DVD/Bluray players are set/locked to the region in which they are sold, region 2 for the UK. You can either try to set your DVD/Bluray player to be a multi-region player, search in the DVD hacks section of this website for your player to see if one is available, but many cannot be changed or have had new software installed to stop current hacks working.
If that isn't an option you could try 'ripping' the DVD on your PC to remove the copy and region protection and reburn to a blank DVD so you can play it in your current player. I should point out that this is currently illegal in the UK as you would be breaking the copy protection so you can be your own judge as to whether you want to do that!
If that isn't an option you could either buy a multi-region player, usually more expensive and harder to find than a regular player, or see if you can exchange the DVD with wherever you bought it for a region 2 DVD instead.
