  1. A slightly out of focus video is almost unwatchable. If perfect image clarity is 100%,
I've got several AVI videos that are 90-to-95%.

With my newbie video skills, I tinkered with the options in VLC Media Player. The image
clarity declined the more I played with all those video settings.

Are there any "set-it-and-forget-it" processing apps that can cleanup a video that's
slightly out of focus? I'm not trying to turn lead into gold like an alchemist! I don't expect
100% clarity, but any improvement would be helpful.

Despite several decades of computer experience, creating and editing images has
never been something I wanted or needed to do. If there are newbie oriented apps
that can improve image clarity please recommend a couple. Open source or freeware
    would be preferable.

    Thanks guys.

Nope, there's no way you can get it focused, all you can do is is tinker with filters but in the end you will give up.It's like trying get a sd video to look like an hd video with just the original sd source to begin with.
    I think,therefore i am a hamster.

  3. There's lots of stuff you can do in AviSynth but improvements will be minor. Of course there's the Sharpen() filter. And some edge enhancement filters like LimitedSharpenFaster(). Another technique you can try is reducing the resolution some, maybe sharpen, then upscale with nnedi3_rpow2() followed with some more sharpening with aWarpSharp() and Sharpen(). But if you go too far the video will look over processed and cartoonish.

You should upload a short clip and someone will give you an example of what can be done.

  4. Yes, I'm not surprised by your replies. I didn't think a blurry image could be fixed, but
I wanted to ask just in case I was wrong.

It's nice to get a definitive answer.

    Thanks again.
