Converting an MP4 H264 to an uncompressed AVI ?

Hi there,

I need to convert some large .mp4 files, encoded in h264, into uncompressed .avi.

The reason is that I have an old version of Premiere and can't afford a new one at the moment. I believe the new CC one supports clips in h264 for import but I have an older one.

I am used to video editing but know little about converting file types

I have tried:

- Virtualdub, but it cannot open the source file. After reading up, I found that I do not have H264 listed in the decoder window of ffdshow video converter. I vaguely understand this to be part of the problem but don't know how to change that.

- I tried OJOsoft Video Converter but it couldn't give me a raw .avi and the mpeg4 option gave some errors.

Is there a simpler way of doing this?

Add the driver, then run VirtualDub.
Click 'File' > 'Open video file', highlight the input file but before clicking 'Open', use the drop down menu on the 'Files of type' box and select 'FFMpeg supported files' then click 'Open'.

I have cs4, and encoded mp4 footages are choppy after rendering..... and I downloaded virtual dub and plugins, and converted to AVI and now it works like magic! Thank you!!
