What bitrate for divx to dvd conversion??

I have an avi divx file that i want to put onto dvdr.

I demuxe the audio using vdub then use tmpeg to convert the video the dvd standard (and convert it to PAL), but what bitrate should I use??

The wizard in tmpeg doesn't let you select a bitrate lower than 2000.

Is there a way of finding out what bitrate the original divx is, as its pointless converting to a higher bitrate than the original, this would just be a waste of space surely.

As DVDr is write once media you might as well use the highest bitrate that will fit onto one disc. AFAIK, Divx bitrate bears little resemblance to MPEG2 bitrate. I would suggest not using the TMPGenc wizards. Simply load the template, then load unlock.mcf from the extras folder and adjust your settings to suit. I use 2pass VBR wth average bitrate of around 6000 and max of 8000 for a 90 minute movie. This should allow enough space for PCM audio.

BTW, using TMPGenc on its own to convert to Pal will result in jerky playback. Take a look at
