  1. I have the Sansa View Video Mp3 Player. (2.4 inch screen)

I have successfully converted mpeg2 videos to MP4(output container) using the H264/avc codec.

With Super program I have used the following settings:

    output container: mp4
    output video codec: H264/AVC
    output Audio codec: AAC
    320*240 1,248 bitrate 25 fps

audio: 64 kpps 44100 khz AAC Stereo

I think my video bitrate is too high since I am getting large video file (over 1gig on almost a 2 hr movie).

Is there a rule of thumb to use when setting the bitrate?

1,248 bitrate does seem very high. You can use a bitrate calculator if you know what size you want the video to be. https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/bitrate-calculators

I would try about 600Kbps and see how that looks. That would give you about half the size. Then try a lower one and see how that looks. The bitrate needed for a given quality varies with the quality of your source and the type of video you have. A higher quality source can look good at a lower bitrate than a poor quality source. Fast action takes more bitrate, low action takes less. There's no hard and fast rules. A bit of experimenting and experience is usually the best way to decide on what bitrate to use.
