2 questions help plz about converting avi to mpeg

.when i've downloaded an avi file i use dub then tmpeg to convert it to a mpeg file but when i play it back on my dvd player it is jerky only very slighty but its there thought maybe its the player but other vcds i have play fine
the player is an acoustic solutions

2.is there an alternative to anglepotins divx codec i have this installed but a couple of films the colour is normal but gradually gets pink then goes normal then builds up to pink again all the way thru the film

In answer to question 1, if you are converting a NTSC (film) Divx to PAL VCD, that will cause the jerkyness. See the howtos on the left for info on fxing this problem
