I'm recording a program through online TV streaming through vlc media player. after recording to reduce it's size, i'm following this way in VLC player
http://prntscr.com/7of9f0
I'm using H.264 + mp (mp4) as it gives me the lowest size of all other formats. I wonder if there is any other option to reduce the video size more by changing it's video/audio settings ?
Thanks in advance

Press the tools icon next to the pulldown and set lower video and/or audio bitrates if you want a smaller file.

I choose MP4 in audio/video codect but still Boilsoft mp4 video splitter is not accepting this file as an MP4 , why ?

Also output file size decrease much with lower quality.Regret is unprofessional.

Use h.264, not MPEG-4. The optimal bitrate varies depending on the movie. File size is almost directly proportional to the bitrate. Ie, 2x the bitrate gives 2x the file size.

it's accepting now. i guess Codecs wasn't installed that's why it wasn't accepting video.

but something is wrong now. whatever the codec i'm selecting, output file size is bigger than the oroginal video. why ? any helpRegret is unprofessional.

So use a lower bitrate to get a smaller file. Make sure you don't have Keep Original Video Track selected on the Video Codec tab. And the same for audio if you're reencoding the audio.Code:file size = bitrate * running time

Why are yo uusing VLC for this? Why don't you use a better program like Handbrake or Vidcoder?Last edited by jagabo; 3rd Jul 2015 at 19:22.

I don't know why you're not finding the output file. Make sure you're looking in the right place.

There's no "size limit option" in Handbrake. You specify the size by selecting a bitrate. On the Video tab select Avg Bitrate (kbps), enter the bitrate you want (half of the source bitrate if you what a file that's about half the size), and enable 2-Pass Encoding and Turbo First Pass. I also recommend you use Constant Framerate rather than Variable. Use a bitrate calculator to determine what bitrate will give you the size you want.
