  1. Most of my recordings on my EH59 look great, but I would like to adjust the brightness. The BVP seems to over soften the image more than I would like, and my AVT works well sometimes but not all the time. Is there a good alternative?

    Thanks

By "EHG59"do you mean a Panasonic DMR-EH59 DVD recorder?
By "BVP" do you mean a BVP-4?
By ""AVT" do you mean AVT-8710? Is your source copy protected?
Are you recording from VHS to your EH59? Are you recording a different source?
The Pansonic has a built-in line tbc and elementary frame sync on Input 1, but it's not being used if the AVT-8710 precedes the recorder. So I assume your VCR or source has a line tbc or doesn't need one.
Did you disable the EH59's DNR?

  3. Yes, yes, yes, not necessarily - using it for the proc amp mostly. I have the Video Filter as well for copy protection.

Using only VHS, some tapes actually look better over composite but I am using mostly s-video. I like the EH59's DNR and generally leave it on.

So what is a better way to adjust brightness?

You could not use a DVD recorder and capture to the computer instead. Most capture apps have ways to adjust the brightness/contrast/levels. Of course, to do that you'll need a capture card or USB capture device.
