I am trying to get the HAP codec to work on virtual dub. It is very weird, I have a desktop PC and a laptop PC. I got it working on the laptop, but it doesn't work on the desktop.
Both laptop and desktop are 64 bit windows, with 32 bit virtualdub and 32 bit hap codec. On the laptop it works, on desktop it doesn't.
The only difference I can concieve of is, is on the laptop I installed the codec first, then I installed virtual dub. But on the desktop I installed and opened virtual dub first then installed the codec. I presume that virtual dub must of gotten all the installed codecs upon first opening and then made a registry entry or something. All my attempts to fully uninstall virtual dub and find such registry key have been futile. Can anyone help me? How do I fully reset virtual dub to it's initial state so that it will load in newly installed codecs?

	Hap codec?

I don't think the order when you install it should cause any problems. Probably some other vfw decoder/encoder codec problem. Tried install any other codecs and see if they appear in virtualdub?

VirtualDub (at least without 3rd party plugins) handles neither QuickTime codecs nor DirectShow filters. It only uses VfW codecs (Video for Windows), a media framework as old as Windows 3.1.

HAP is a video codec optimized for utilizing the GPU to display video fast.

If there is any VfW variant of this codec, I must have missed it...

I don't see the benefit. It is light on the CPU, but requires faster HDDs..... Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........
