The .dll is copied to c:\winnt\system32 resp. c:\windows\system\.
However, you can not just rename the .dll to .vdf if you use one of the newer versions. Just reinstall vobsub and check "vobsub for VirtualDub". -
i tried what u told and it worked, thanks truman. now i have another prob, do i need a codec for the vfapi file cuz virtualdub doesnt read it. Am wondering where i could get the codec or am i doin something wrong

http://www.divx-digest.com/software/vfapi.html
Extract to any dir, go to VFAPI\codec subdir and run vifpset.bat.
I always recommend to read the README, that comes with the tools. -
..just to answer the next question, before you can open a *vfapi.avi you have to make sure, that you turned off the proxy mode. VD\aviproxy\proxyoff.reg.
And sure, you have to install the handler VD\auxsetup.exe
