  1. Hi Everyone,

I'm having a problem with DVD Lab and I wondered if anyone could help?

I've downloaded a movie already in DVD format (it's not piracy, it's not a commercial dvd) and I want to add menus to it. I've imported it into DVD lab like I have done countless times and it has demuxed the files for me.

The problem is the sound comes out as being approx. 2 minutes longer than the video. So obviously when I author it - it's out of sync.

First of all I tried fixVTS on the DVD files to check if there was a problem with the original DVD - no change.

Then I ran the AC3 file through AC3fix and delaycut - no problems there.

Then I used some different demux programs - PGCdemux, TMPG, DG Index - no change.

Then I imported the file into Womble and saved as an MPEG, then tried to demux that file - no change.

Then I put the whole DVD into ConvertXtoDVD and re-encoded it. When I import that file into DVD Lab the sound and video are the same length, however when it's authored it's still out of sync.

Then I tried putting the audio into audacity and shrinking it to the length of the video, which for some reason makes it in sync and the beginning and end but still out of sync in the middle.

I contacted the person who made it and they said it was just done using a standalone DVD recorder from VHS - nothing like an AVI to DVD encode that might have caused issues.

Also the actual DVD files, as they are when I downloaded them, play fine and are in sync. It only becomes a problem when I demux.

I've never come across this problem and it's giving me a real headache!!

Can anyone suggest anything or has anyone encountered this before?

    Many thanks

sometimes re-writing the gop timecode can fix sync problems

  3. Thanks for your reply aedipuss, I've tried that and it gives me a few more seconds on the video length but it's still around 2 minutes out.

without having it to play with that's about the only thing you hadn't listed that might help i could come up with.

but dvdlab allows you to use the vobs without de-muxing, iirc. maybe that way would work.

Just for testing, try another authoring program, Muxman for example.
Maybe the problem is in the version of DVD-lab Pro you have,
IMHO the old 2.24 was the least problematic one.

Also, you could upload the AC3 file, so that we can examine it.
Perhaps you have a stream encoded in an unusual manner, which might be confusing the authoring programs

  6. Demux using DGIndex. Open all the VOBs and then File->Save Project and Demux Video. And yes, like El Heggunte, I might try remuxing with Muxman to see if everything's in synch afterwards. If so, I think you can go ahead with creating menus using DVD Lab. Or, just replace your out-of-synch-with-menus version you made (?) with your new in-synch version, using the 'Replace' button in VobBlanker, and keep the menus you made. If you go that route, be sure to add in the Celltimes.txt (the chapters) PGCDemux gave you, when using Muxman.

  8. Well I'm afraid muxman didn't solve it, but I managed to do it by not demuxing the vob files and just importing them directly into DVD lab, as aedipuss suggested. I suppose it's not the ideal way but it worked.

    Thanks again everyone.

    Cheers

That's not what you did the first time?

  10. No the first time I let DVD Lab demux the video/audio for me and that it what seems to have caused the problem. This time I just imported the VOBs without demuxing. I don't know what is wrong with the original files but the process of demuxing seems to make it out of sync - whichever program I use to do it.

Its not really the way I wanted to do it as I was going to try and clean up the audio with a few filters, but at least it's in sync now.
