  1. It's in clearance at Newegg and you can see it here and since I have no 3D HDTV I was thinking about getting it and see if I can finally watch some 3D Blu-rays in my 2D HDTV. Anybody here tested it? It was priced at about $200 previously but at the price they have it in clearance it looks viable to get it and do some tests until I have room in my budget for a new 3D HDTV. Can somebody help me with this please?

It does 2D->3D not 3D->2D, so what do you want with it if you don't have a 3D capable HDTV?

    Agreed. From that webpage:

Actually if you want to waste 30-50 usd you can get a 2d to 3d anaglyph converter box. It hooks up between your bluray and hdtv and will "force" it into 3d anaglyph.

Mine actually works pretty well considering. Nothing close to a movie theater 3d level of course and its still anaglyph.

But for 30.00 its a fun little gadget. Though it helps to sit closer than you might normally and a dark room is a must. Plus if you can find them you are better off getting those sunglasses style 3d glasses rather than just paper as they are more comfortable for long sittings.

And the effects are mild of course. And anything that was originally filmed for 3d works best since they have the fly at the camera moments meant for 3d.

But like I said get one if you want to say you have 3d just because.

You have to dig harder if you want one that can convert side by side and I think those are more expensive. Otherwise it will just take any regular 2d signal and apply the 3d anaglyph conversion to it.

If you are serious about 3d than you should invest in a bonafide 3d set and 3d bluray player. Than you have the right equipment.

I can post a link for the gadget i got if you want to know more.

...WASTE being the key word here.

Do you want real 3D or don't you? If so, you will steer clear of these things. If not, you should steer clear of these things.

Just to cover myself i did mention at the end that it is not real 3d and the poster should really look into true 3d equipment for the real experience.

My suggestion is just to fool around with it if the poster wanted too

Oh, I know. Yeah, it could be fun as a toy...

I remember your quest and your system. It's really worth it once you get it, isn't it?

  9. I already have a 2d to 3d anaglyph converter box, it's called the 3D Video wizard, that I found really cheap on clearance. I too agree that is fun. I can't say I'm a 100% happy with it but is good enough for the price I paid. Is just that I wanted to find a better one that doesn't work with amber/cyan glasses. I was wondering if there's any that work with passive or active glasses.

Yes there are, but they are more expensive ($100-300). And to use Passive or Active Glasses, one needs a TRUE 3D system. At that point, you don't really need the box. Except as another toy.

I referenced 'em in that previous thread we were on. 3D-Bee and CH-2D3D.

  13. Did you tested 3D-Bee? Is just that the HDTV that I have was a gift from my mother and she gave it to me just about a year ago and I don't want to replace it this often and 3D-Bee seems OK not to have to replace the present HDTV.

IIRC, both of those boxes do 2D->3D, with the 3D layout being in the form of HDMI 1.4a-compatible SbS or TAB or RowInterleaved.

Meaning, you still need a TRUE Active or Passive 3DTV to work with them.

No, I did not test either of them. As a 3D evangelist, I feel they (hardware-based 2D->3D) are detracting from true possible 3D uptake by consumers (because of dashed expectations via their tepid performance), so I could not condone them for use OTHER than as a wasteful toy.
