Hello

    I followed the excellent
https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/214768-How-to-add-permanent-subtitle-to-a-video-wit...-virtualdubmod tutorial, and using aegisub, I have created karaoke files.

Everything works perfectly, and even too perfectly !

My final uncompressed video-clip weights 9 gigas... for an original 5 mn clip, of 169 megas.

I tried to compress with Divx-Low motion codec, and with this configuration :

    I obtained a 53 mega file,

    with that one :

a 164 mega-file, that's not too bad, compared to the original.

My final product would be a DVD, with several Video-clips, to look on my TV. Of course, with the better quality. So afterwards, I used Freemake Video Converter (FVC) to obtain DVD-files. And I get many vob files, with little weight (like the original clips).

My questions are : how to obtain the best quality ? Is it necessary to have a 9 giga file before using FVC ? How much would the file weight ?

You don't make a DivX AVI first, before then making a DVD. You go directly from source to DVD. I'm not entirely clear on what you're doing, though. Are you cutting clips from DVDs to join and make another DVD?

Anyway, you can put the subtitles into the DVD at the same time as you're encoding the final DVD.

No, it's only necessary to have the original video files (VOBs, I guess, or MPG) and the subtitle files.
How much would the file weight ?
Not enough information. You haven't even said how long the DVD is to be. 1 hour? 2 hours? And even that's not enough information. It also depends on what final quality you want. Anyway, to answer your question, it will 'weigh' whatever you want it to. That depends only on the bitrate you give it.

    Hello manono !

I was not really clear... Sorry !

I try to make a compilation of Bollywood karaoke video clips, that I create with aegisub.

    1. With PGCedit, I rip single cells from a DVD (sometimes I use vobmerge to have the entire clip), in VOB format.

    2. With VirtualDubMod, I cut the clip ; then I compress it at fast-compression, to open it later quickly with aegisub, call this clip "Fast-clip" ; and I create an uncompressed clip, too, to keep the best quality ; call that clip "Good-Avi"

    3. With aegisub, I create karaoke subtitles, with codes such as {\k84} or {\kf43} ; I obtain an ass file

    4. With VDM, I put the ass file into the Good-Avi clip, and there is the question for me (what compression quality ?) ; I obtain a "Karaoke-Clip" such as :

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G_UhJJ9AXbc&feature=c4-overview&list=UUdRWXSgwhAjudV8t7_Z9u4A

    <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/G_UhJJ9AXbc?list=UUdRWXSgwhAjudV8t7_Z9u4A" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe>

    5. Now I want to create a DVD with all my files. Of course, with 9 giga files, it would be very heavy ! And long too, I suppose, to convert all.

  4. First, your Om Shanti Om song is in the wrong aspect ratio. Can't you tell everyone is too tall and slender. Compare yours with this version:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VzLG6OqOcn8

Second, for some reason you created it so it has black bars on all four sides. Looks bad.

Third, you have clashing subs - the next one beginning before the earlier one is finished and is placed on top briefly. Very amateurish.
    2. With VirtualDubMod, I cut the clip
You can cut it in MPEG2Cut2 or countless other apps.
    and I create an uncompressed clip, too, to keep the best quality ;
You'll get smaller size using a lossless but compressed codec. I use Lagarith but there are several good ones.
    4. With VDM, I put the ass file into the Good-Avi clip, and there is the question for me (what compression quality ?) ; I obtain a "Karaoke-Clip" such as :
If you insist on doing it that way, again, use lossless.

I don't know that final size or encoding time for DVD has much, if anything, to do with the size of the source file.

My Deewangi Deewangi was made 4 years ago, it's very bad, isn't it ? Sorry not to be a professional, I'll try to improve (It can't be worst ! )

Mpeg2cut2 is great tool ! Thanks, manono.

I'll try lagarith, thanks again for the link.
