This news is disheartening to me. I have never liked subscription-based software and I think that Adobe is moving in the wrong direction. People will probably find alternatives to the Adobe Suite, especially those with iffy internet access.

  2. This is a growing trend with "mature" apps. Few people need to upgrade to the latest version of such software as their old version already does everything they need. Corporations need to show growth every quarter or the executives don't get big bonuses and the value of their stock options don't go up. Now they can just bump the price of a subscription whenever they need to show greater profits.

This will just make the street value of their former versions be in greater demand, or it will drive buyers to competitors that don't do subscription pricing (until all of those get on the bandwagon, too). There will be some diehards that like the model, but I can't see myself doing that anytime soon. MAYBE if it included free 24/7 ACTUAL support & bonus goodies (and I assume already it would have a free upgrade path). Still, they want to get you on the teat...

Opensource keeps looking better. Too bad there still isn't something great for DAWs & NLEs.

In a recent chat with Adobe the representative tried to get me to move over to the the subscription-based software but I refused. They were pushing subscriptions way before the announcement was made.

I guess I will have to stick with CS6 for a while. It's really too bad for the smaller businesses and freelancers who desire to upgrade but cannot afford to pay a perpetual monthly fee. And the same holds true for smaller businesses and individuals who may become cash strapped gradually and can no longer afford to pay a monthly fee.

It seems like a lot, but we pay $10 a month just for online banking. If you calculate it out over time, and considering everything like yearly upgrades, it kind of makes sense.

I think they want to kill off people selling old versions for half price. Plus they can move you forward automatically. A lot of editors are WAY behind technically, and stuck in a time warp.

  7. Cheap Deals I could find on internet.
Also heard The Lords and their army of Dark Side of The Moon gives away for free! (Never tried.), Anyone need only one power-tool like Swiss-Knife. Sometimes WalMart, FutureShop and BestBuy sell out old versions off the racks very cheap & highly discounted.

  8. That site looks like a scam site to me.

  9. yes it looks like scam to me as well.
    Scammers are here-n-there, everywhere.
Selling software (a piece of Crap(bug)Ware) at the price of rocket is another skimming scam beyond the reach of an average person.

But cute penguins are always free as in beer. Penguins do have expensive expensive (commercial) Tuxedo Suites too. Free video tools on penguins are crap or handicapped like broken Swiss-Knife worth garbage.

Who does not need power tools like Swiss-Knife?

  10. That is a relief.....there would be no way I would do a subscription. Would use the old software until it died...

Seems Micro$oft led the way with their Office 365 "rentalware."

Don't know about you, but my online banking is free.............I wouldn't use it otherwise.

Anyway, I'm still using good old PhotoShop7 (not CS version) and it does everything I would ever need.
Got my retirement plans all set. Looks like I only have to work another 5 years after I die........

It's "Free" because you're losing on the going interest rate of some other "qualifying" account. Probably savings.

Rentalware. Yes. This IS the logical progression for the Windows App Store. First, it will be tracking your time-based subscriptions (monthly, etc., which is what anti-virus 1-year 2-year subscriptions have done for years), THEN it will move into Transaction Processing, similar to the phone plans which track calls, length of calls... except it might be mouse-clicks, drags, Exits, Save Files, Opens - any 'transaction' is going to be the next target for 'fees'.

The biggest credit card companies make their fortunes off of transaction fees, not our interest payments.

Doubt it. The better your account, the better the rates and rewards. Sad but true.
BofA Platinum accounts are awesome for this very reason.

I use Photoshop CS5 and Premiere CS4 and I'm happy with it. Does what I need.
