Playing WMV kills my video too!

Hi All.

I just logged in to post my latest problem and couldn't believe my eyes when the very first topic in the thread was the problem I was having! So, instead of gatecrashing in that thread, I'm posting mine separately.

The problem is that whenever I play any WMV file, the screen goes completely black and then the blue screen of death appears with a fatal exception error. The blue screen doesn't go away even if I hit any key to continue. The only way out it to reboot.

The weird thing is that once I reboot, then I can click on any WMV file and it plays fine. However, if I click on another file, the black screen returns. In other words, I can only play one WMV file at a time, with the black screen in between plays.

This doesn't occur with any other file types. It is a W98SE pc with GOM Player. I think if I try to play the file in Media Player Classic, it doesn't crash but MPC gives me an error message. Sorry I can't include that at the moment; I don't want to risk a crash this far into typing this message!

Note that I've been able to play these files fine with W98SE and GOM Player before.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Reinstall WMP 9 and download WMF 11 SDK.

Thanks alot for your good advice. It worked perfectly. I didn't even need to install the SDK. Should I leave it at that or would there be any need for the SDK?

WMF 11 SDK installs the latest codecs.
