  1. I used DirectShowSource as the script to open mp4 with AAC audio. VirtualDub can open it and show that both video and audio stream exist. My problems are:
    - VirtualDub freezes when it tries to play the clip.
    - The output clip has video but no audio.

If I work with an avi file with mp3 track, DirectShowSource works as expected.

    Any ideas?

  2. Don't use VDub for playing videos as it's not designed to be a player.
    Don't use DirectShowSource.
Extract the audio and mux it in afterwards.

Is the AAC audio more than 2 channels? Is the mp3 track? What I've experienced is when I'm working with 5.1 channels the display shows all channels of the audio, but won't play it. However if I change the script to limit to 2 channels, it plays fine. (Or as well as it ever plays in VDub. As noted by manono, it's not a good player.) The audio output from AviSynth is effectively uncompressed and I don't think VDub is equipped to handle more than 2 channels.
