    hello forum
ive been pointed in this direction by the guys on AV Forums, as they say you guys are the experts...and i have a problem!

I have a video of my wedding day speeches that no longer plays.
It is in mp4 format, 2.5gb in size.
It was ok a few months back and has been watched in its entirety.
But now it freezes at 8mins. No audio and the video just freezes, like a screen cap.
I have tried various file fixers but found none to work or have any real functionality.
I have converted to avi, which results in the same problem.
Also tried multiple video players - windows media, media player classic and VLC. No joy
Also tried multiple computers with no luck

Just wondered if anyone could help as its the only video of the speeches that was made!

You could try "remultiplex" it, open it in mymp4boxgui and make a new mp4. It will probably fail though. Then try video repair tool and see if it can repair it. Try the trial first(repair half video).

I've tried muxing but to no avail.
I'm not really sure what it is to be honest. Or if I'm doing it correctly.

  7. So neither program worked? Your file might be corrupted due HDD failure? That would come on my mind.

There must be some repair tools around, they might help. Check here on videohelp: https://www.videohelp.com/tools/sections/video-repair-fix

First, I'd just try to load your file to videoeditor and edited out part that gives problem, check the time when it stops playing, try to use Avidemux for example and cut out that part, save without re-encoding. Try not to scroll through that part that gives problem.

Thanks for the suggestions. But I can't cut out parts of the video as its a wedding speech. If I cut parts out it will make no sense!
I've tried several video fixer programmes and had no luck.
The PC it was originally on had no HDD failure and was backed up on a USB stick.

  9. So now it gives you the same problem in both cases, playing from HDD and USB stick too?

    Yep.
Tried playing it from USB stick, ext. HDD same problem.
Also tried on different machines and get the same problem.

  11. Does the timing of you backing the file up to USB stick coincide to about when the file stopped playing properly?

    No not really.
My dad had it on his lappy and a USB.
He'd watched it several times from both and then when tryin to show me it this happened!?

Does the media info I posted above give any clues.
I'm not a media buff at all so I'm totally stumped. (Although I am a bit of a tech and computer nerd!)

  13. No, the media info doesn't seem to hold any clues.

What happens when you try remuxing, say with mkvmerge, you get an error or does the resulting mkv file behave the same as the mp4?

  15. Is the file too large to upload?
Did you try remux with ffmpeg?
Did you try remux with mkvmerge?

  17. start mmg
    drag&drop your file into mmg
    set output file
    start muxing
check if newly created mkv file plays better
