  1. I feel like an idiot, but I can't get RipBot to extract to any file without errors on all the files. I've tried using WinRar and WinZip, and neither one will extract the download without errors. After extracting to a file, when I try to execute the RipBot.exe, I get an error that says it's not a valid Windows 32-bit executable file.

Are you running the most recent versions of either WinZip or WinRar? If all else fails, as RipBot is distributed in a 7Zip archive, I believe - download the latest version of 7zip and extract the files from the .7z archive with that.

  4. 7Zip is asking me for Vista or Windows 7 fonts and I'm running XP Pro. Should I proceed, and does RipBot even work with XP? Thanks for the replies.

Uninstall the 7-Zip 9.22 current version...

    Install the 7-Zip 9.20 previous version: http://sourceforge.net/projects/sevenzip/files/7-Zip/9.20/7z920.exe/download

Is there any release of ripbot that it DOESN'T need installation of other programs/tools/plugins?

One release that it is full and work just fine itself WITHOUT ANY INSTALLATION.

I doubt that. As long as it uses avisynth.

You have to use something else like vidcoder, handbrake, tencoder, etc.

Just had quick look, I used RipBot but didn't like its lack of control, and for something that's supposed to be simple and straight forward to use, it uses and awful lot of external software. Avisynth can cause a lot of aggrevation for users as its a very very powerful piece of software on its own but not easy to get to grips with if you start getting problems

It did mention on the RipBot website that Windows XP users MUST install Windows Media Player 11

What exactly are you trying to achieve using RipBot, converting media to smaller files or putting movies onto something like an iPad or Android Pad/Phone ???

As suggested, have a look at another encoder and see if that fits your need. There are plenty of other 100% FREE encoders. I've tried quite a few and settled on VidCoder for ease of use but teh ability to change things when/if I wish

It's easy to use with the default settings without confusing you, can encode pretty much everything and has the ability to fiddle with settings to squeeze a bit more out of it or create your own profiles

Uninstall all codec packs, AviSynth, Haali Media Splitter, ffdshow. XP users also must install Windows Media Player 11!

This is the basics for those who need to work with videos.
The RipBot264 is portable and already have their own tools.

The RipBot264 at least shows you what you need, while others install software and tools automatically.
