    hi
i use Avidemux with x264 encoder to convert satellite streams (TS) into MKV.

    1. is MKV a good choice for the destination format while using this encoder? isn't it better to choose AVI? (the combobox under Format)

    2. i do it for archiving the streams. we have only mpeg1/2 player device. when i want to convert them back to mpeg (preferably mpeg2 instead of VCD not to lose much quality), what converter do u suggest?

    thx

    1. Use mkv or mp4 for h264/x264.
    2. Use the free hcenc together with a gui like avstodvd(it can output mpeg2 files and not just dvds).

    Hello there,

my first remark (unfortunately this is a comparatively old thread) is directed at redwudz and Noahtuck: Why would you abuse a user and close a thread, (this: https://forum.videohelp.com/threads/343561-901123-in-Avidemux-Add-to-Joblist-causes-pro...lose?p=2141218) because it has - again: unfortunately - the same no. in front of the title as this one? The questions asked here and over there are completely different.

I could have done with an answer to the first (linked above) thread, thank you. After all, we are told not to use the same thread for different types of questions/subjects....and a sensible rule it is, too.

Or should I post the question again elsewhere?
EDIT: Found an open thread dealing with this, hope someone knows a solution, thanks.
