I created a short video (AVI) and it's about 431 MB when I export it from Premiere Pro 5. Then, when I try to add the subtitles with Avirecomp (srt file made in subtitle workshop), the video is sized down to 80 MBs. This happens when I try to convert anyway, regardless of the subtitles. In Avirecomp I'm supposed to be able to set the size manually, and I do, but it ignores it and just makes it 80 MBs. The main problem is that the quality is much, much lower than the original video.

    I have 2 questions:
    1. Is there an easy way to embed subtitles into my video, other than avirecomp?

    2. Is there a way to fix this problem in Avirecomp?

    Thanks!

    1. Freemake video converter(ADWARE!), load avi, click subtitle to load your srt, convert to avi, mp4, etc. You can also use video to video converter, tencoder, xvid4psp, avidemux to burn in subtitles from srt.

    2. Give us more information about your source video, length and video frame size.

Thanks! I'll check these programs when I'm back home. Will also add the info about my video.

    Regarding the 2nd question -
    My video is 1:59 minutes, 29.97 fps, resolution 720 x 480, 3571 frames.

I tried using these programs you linked above, but I wasn't able to keep the same file size.
I'd really like to know how to do it in avirecomp without making the output file smaller.

    Thanks!

Avirecomp is making an avi with xvid around 5MBit/s bitrate. It should be well enough for 720x480 so it's strange that you lose so much quality. Maybe you could post a screenshot or video sample.

If you want bigger file size/less compression use a lossless codec like huffyuv, lagarith. You can't select that in avirecomp though. Only in avidemux, virtualdub, xvid4psp.
