    Hi,

My name is Alex. I am in China and I accidentally left my guitar in an elevator. When I went back it was gone. I know I know, I'm pretty stupid but everyone makes mistakes, right? I have lo-res security videos from each floor of the building I was in, but I can't watch them because they're somehow encrypted or cannot be decompressed for some reason. I am a video newb, but if anyone on here is willing to help, I am attaching a couple of the videos in case one of you can find a way to open them. The files are small. Help would be most appreciated.

    Thank you so, so much.

    Alex

Yep, it worked to change the n264 to xvid.

I used ultraedit. Opened the mpg. Changed the two n264 to xvid.

Sample attached and renamed to .avi. It works in VLC Media Player.

I got it from the security guards in the building where I'm staying.. My Chinese isn't that good (especially with computer stuff) and I have already bothered them a lot so I was just wondering if there was any way to watch these vids before I go see them again. I'll take a look at this thread you posted.

    Thanks

    Alex

Se my post above. And before you hex edit the files make a backup of it.

Whoa!! I'm very impressed sir. Is this difficult to do? Is the software free/cheap/expensive?

    Thanks

No, it's simple. Try a free hex editor like http://download.cnet.com/HxD-Hex-Editor/3000-2352_4-10891068.html

Open the mpg. You should see the N264 at the beginning of the file. Change to xvid. Save as a new .avi.
