  1. I have a dvr-104 from www.esbuy.com and there cheap dvd-r discs,
only burnt 4,but 2 turned to coasters at 1x burning using latest version of nero and windows xp pro it gave up at about 50% and 80% through burning nero said there was a comunication error. Any thoughts bad media drive overheating or faulty drive p.s. hard drive is dma 100 and defraged thanks in advanced

  2. Could try Prassi Primo DVD to burn.
It has a higher success rate than nero.

  4. Make sure you don't have the drive in a hot system and that airflow is good around the drive. Do not block the external fan since it helps cool the drive during disk writes. I have had the same success with Prassi and Nero.

  7. Has anybody tried this drive with DVD-RW's yet? I bought cheapo Princo ones and they are coasters within 2 mins into the burn! Having said that it looks like they may have a manufacturing defect: they have a concentric ring visible on the disk about 1/2" out from the centre.

Anybody suggest good, cheap DVD-R's and good DVD-RW's for movie backup with this new drive?

  8. ...this may be obvious...but from my experience, the jumpers on the back of your DVD burner should be set to "master" and the drive should be on the 2nd IDE channel seperate from your system drive on the 1st IDE channel...

  9. Hey Cheeky,
The area that you referred might be correct. DVD-R General media is supposed to have an embossed area. That is were the Encyption key would be on a DVD-ROM disk. The DVD Forum did this because the MPAA wanted to make sure no one could do a Bit for Bit copy of a DVD Movie disk. My Experience with Princo media shows it to be pretty poor quality stuff and the drive is not tuned to write to it. Double wammy.

  10. I got the drive and it works great. I brought it from esbuy.com also. I am using dvd-r media from meritline.com. Now that I think about it though I have had two unsuccessful burns to my dvd-rw though. Has anybody found any cheap truly 2X dvd-r media?
