.mod conversion did not work on adobe ppcs4

I have an old jvc video camera, the movies are .mod I tried using avs4you trial version to convert to avi. It converted but then I put it in adobe prempro cs4 and it does not work. I didn't know if maybe because I used the trial version of avs that it did not work. I did not want to pay for it until I knew it would work.
Does anyone have any help for getting the .mod files so they will work with adobe. I had also tried any video converter (free) and it did not work.
