Then you'd better hurry....you only have 1 change left.
Easiest way out is to buy something like AnyDVD....or you can go the firmware route but it is not for the faint-hearted and if done incorrectly you can "brick" the drive.

Ripping and reburning the DVD to a new disc will make it region free. We have various guides on how to do this.
VLC ignores region codes so the fact that it barfed and died on your disc makes me have a lot of questions about exactly what this DVD is that you are trying to play on it. And I'm not sure you fully understand this - the NEXT time you change regions on your drive it is PERMANENTLY locked to that region. You shouldn't have EVER changed regions on it. You've been a member here for 3 years and posted more than 80 times. Why did you not ask for help or do research on how to deal with DVDs from other regions the FIRST time you had a DVD from another region? It makes no sense at all that you have just been changing regions on your drive multiple times. That is what people who aren't members here do because they don't know any other way to deal with the situation. -
I suspect it's the dvd that's at fault. The media itself. Try the disc somewhere else.
Vlc (or any other media player) should have no problem whatsoever with region codes. Even the crap ones I've used ... and, sorry, but I think mpc-hc is just one step above that ... don't give a fiddler's fart whether the source video is ntsc or pal. -
I found this about season 6 of Home Improvement on DVD and playback problems when using VLC.

There is a suggestion that one poster said worked for him.
It seems that there is something in the way they created the menus for season 6 that is causing VLC a problem but you can work around it with the suggestion in that thread. Follow the link in the 2nd post to see what they did to fix it. -
jamespoo - ALWAYS tell us what your DVDs are when you are having problems. I found the link I posted above only because you finally said what you were having problems with. Also, since this issue is actually with the way the menus are designed, ripping it and burning a region free copy won't fix that. Just FYI.
