    Hi,
i have another question. First does PSNR help in reducing banding?

Second, does demuxing audio and video streams cause a loss in quality when you merge them back together (i'm using Mediacoder to demux and MKVmerge to remux)

It's not something you "apply" to reduce banding. PSNR is a type of objective " quality " measurement , Peak Signal to Noise Ratio . Higher values indicate more signal, less noise. Thus, videos with higher PSNR should exhibit less "banding" if the banding was from poor compression, compression artifacts. But there are other types of "banding". Videos with high PSNR values will still exhibit "banding" from low bit depth

No, not if you demux and remux. Streams are just copied.
