I have been successfully making SVCD's for a while now and am trying to improve by experimenting a little. What I am trying to do is encode a movie to 23.976 f/s and use 3:2 pulldown in TMPGEnc 2.5. The problem is that when I use these settings under the "Video" tab, it makes the encoded movie "non-interlaced" and it doesn't play correctly in my DVD player on my TV.

I also tried to use the settings...

    Frame rate: 23.976
    Encode method: Interlace
And under Advanced selecting "3:2 Pulldown".

This didn't work either, It was still progressive.

So, does anyone know how to make a move with 3:2 pulldown but interlaced? Or have any other suggestions?

My DVD player is an APEX 5131.

    Thanks,
    Tearren

    Hey Compound,

Thanks for the reply. Actually, I am choosing the 3:2 pulldown option, but when I play the movie on mt tv with my dvd player, I can see lines. This is because with 3:2 pulldown the movie is made to be progressive. It even says in TMPGEnc in the description of 3:2 pulldown that encoding is done with non-interlace (or progressive). I need it to be interlaced, because I don't think I can play a progressive movie or I'll see lines. Right??? Any other suggestions?

The frame rate of the original is 29.97 (Checked with Bitrate Viewer).

When I frameserved with DVD2AVI it was 99% Film. If I understand correctly, I should be able to make the frame rate 23.976 with 3:2 PullDown. Right?

just the oposite you want 29.97 for svcd if you want to change origanal 29.97 to 23.97 you need to inverse telicine but if the origanal is 29.97 just leave it alone for svcd (no 3:2 pulldown)
