    G'day all

I bought an HDMI to DVI Cable but it has no filters. I have always used video cables with filters on them. I'm wandering if the lack of filters would cause any damage to my screen or video card. I'm using a 22" Samsung LED monitor. Would this cable be OK to use?

    Thanks for any answers.

  2. No, a cable without ferrite beads won't hurt your electronics. The purpose of the beads is to reduce high frequency noise transmission. With digital data that's less important than with analog.

I often wondered what that 'thick bit' towards the end of the cable was. Me thought it was there to make handling easier.

I have read of people experiencing noise "sparklies" with digital connections(DVI,HDMI). That then must be down to a different reason.

It prevents noise from the device entering the cable where the cable acts as a transmitting antenna. And it prevents noise from the cable, acting as a receiving antenna, entering the device.

That is what happens when there's too much noise or signal loss on DVI and HDMI connections. It may or may not be helped by a cable with chokes. If the OP isn't seeing that (and he didn't mention it) he need not worry about the cable.

Thank you all very much for your educational answers. I was concerned about it. This cable is to connect my spare PCs.

    Thanks and Regards
