Why not rip the DVD using something like DVDFab HD Decrypter or AnyDVD (assuming you're using Windows, as you don't quite mention what OS you're using in your Computer Details), and then take the result to Handbrake?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?

How about helping yourself a tiny, little bit?
DVDs that you buy in a store are copy protected. HandBrake alone will NOT work on these type of DVDs.
It was already suggested that you use DVDFabDecrypter (there is a FREE portion of the program) FIRST....then use HandBrake.
    Have you tried that yet?

If your DVDFab rip is giving you problems in HandBrake....then you may want to try making the rip more simple. Make a Movie Only rip with one language.

The AAC reference is regarding Handbrake.

You can change the bit-rate if you like, but there's no need as 160 is fine.

Did you just rip in dvdfab ... ie. only remove the copy protection, resulting in a video_ts folder containing the movie ... or rip and reencode? That could cause problems ... handbrake is a very reliable encoder. The encoder in dvdfab isn't that good.

That's why so many here recommend dvdfab hd decrypter (the free part) to rip/decrypt, then handbrake to reencode to mkv or mp4.

They may recommend other encoders but handbrake (or vidcoder, which is an older version of the same program with a different interface) doesn't have the steep learning curve the others do. Video encoding is actually quite complex.

If I'm ripping my dvds I don't bother reencoding the audio at all. Just use ac3 passthrough. The audio part of the file is going to be dwarfed by the video part anyway so why bother?
