I have converted DVD to avi (Xvid).
I use Media Player Classic to watch the video, it displays the resulting .avi in somewhat faded colors comparing to the original DVD:
Origin - left, Result - right (normal printscreen was not available)

But, if I change ffdshow settings, the the colors are becoming normal: the change is to set RGB32 as the primary output colorspace:

Probably, doing so is a bad practice.
I suppose, I commit some mistake when converting the video.

Next, I describe how I've done the conversion:
Open the DVD's .vob in VirtualDub, do convertion using Xvid codec (full processing mode). All params are left to the defaults.
    So nothing special.
Don't you see what can be wrong ?

Lastly, I give the two videos characteristics:

  2. You cannot use 2 media players with graphics card overlay simultaneously to test accurately, the 2nd will use different renderer, usually resulting in faded colors, different levels

When using vdub to convert use "video=> fast recompress" to make sure you don't undergo RGB conversion

Thank you very much for the reply !

    1) >> You cannot use 2 media players ... to test accurately
ok, but the result is the same when I have only one player launched, exited vdub, etc.

    2) And, especially, colors become normal should I only change that "primary output colorspace" ffdshow setting, I've talked about in the previous post. So, I guess, the "fast recompress" won't help here.

    3) also, when I use VLC player (which does't use ffdshow) colors are ok, when disable ffdshow for "XVID" FOURCC - colors ok in MPC player too.

So, I suspect, that some info in the resulting video tells ffdshow to use wrong/unnecessary color conversion.
Or it's something else, what do you think ?

Which version of ffdshow are you using?
If cameras add ten pounds, why would people want to eat them?
