    RBCC -

In the example you gave, I wonder if you wouldn't actually be better off just writing a .srt subtitle file and timing the lyrics to show up at the appropriate times. There's so many ways to add an .srt it's practically a gimme.

If that's not suitable and you really need the scrolling, I'd use AviSynth - I believe there's a fairly easy way to script a transparent-background still image (your text, of course) passing over a second video, and then just pass that to your .mpg encoder.

  4. Any video editor can do this as well e.g. sony vegas, premiere pro, but avisynth is free (but harder to use, it's all done in code & scripts)

You didn't mention what the end goal was - but if this isn't "mpg" as in for DVD-video, another option is to use subtitles like ass or ssa with aegisub - they support karaoke effects . This way you don't need to re-encode the video or incur quality loss

You could do them as subtitles for DVD as well (the spec does allow for scrolling, if you've got a PRO authoring app - Scenarist, Maestro).

Virtualdubmod and place the subtitler filter into the plugins folder ... then read the readme and look at banner and scroll heading for more information ... save as avi or frameserve it to an mpeg encoder.

Back in ... 2004 ... I used Vegas Video 7 ... to add credits at the end of a film clip. I also used Vegas Video 7 to add little comments during scenes of Halle Berry in that 007 Movie with Pierce Brosnan

  8. I use Corel VideoStudio - done a LOT of karaoke videos with it.
Easy to use and lots of effects.
