I normally use ConvertXtoDVD but I just dumped 30 DVs worth of home movies to AVI using Scenalyzer and would like to only create a chapter for each file. CXtoDVD doesn't have that option, it will only create chapters every X minutes. Just wondering what a decent ($$ is fine) program is to take the AVIs now to DVD with the nicest menu/chapter config. Thanks!

So you have DV-AVI clips? Did you cap to clips or continuous?
Vegas allows marking clips then can auto-convert those markers to chapters in DVDA.
For quality, keep bit rate high.Recommends: Kiva.org - Loans that change lives.

I have individual clips for each scene all filename timestamped. Here's what VideoInspector has to say about the format

While I own the program, not sure if this works because I've never used the function....but ConvertXToDVD does allow you to create and move chapter marks.
First load your movie into it and use 'Window'>'Video Preview'.
Click on the movie label and the preview screen will display the auto-chapter marks.
If you right click on one of these you have the option to delete it or add another.
In addition, the chapter marks can be dragged to wherever you like.
Theoretically, it follows that if you merge all your files into one large movie, you should be able to set chapter marks when/where you like.
Clicking on the chapter opens the chapter editor in the left pane and you can set the time for these precisely.
Hope that helps (and I'm right!). Lol.Last edited by transporterfan; 9th Jan 2012 at 05:25. Reason: Added more info.

I have *30 hours* of video and hundreds of clips... I really need something automated that's just going to create a new chapter for each new file. I looked at Vegas 11 and while it has a gazillion options, I don't see much in the way of options for creating DVDs, though admittedly I have not yet spent much time with it or read any documentation, so it could be buried in there.
Ideally though I just need something more simple. Drag a bunch of AVI files, have it create a nice menu and mark each clip as a chapter and convert the files to maximize the amount of space available on the DVD. No editing, no manual chapter setting. I'm sure there's probably 20 tools to do this, but there's hundreds of tools and I've installed 5 or 6 and hate dirtying up my PC with all this stuff that never uninstalls cleanly just to see if it can do something. Figured you guys would have some ideas. -
In that case, the only one I know of is Corel's DVD MovieFactory Pro 7.
Again I've not used it but there is a review (link below) which describes something similar to what you are trying to achieve.
Read the last paragraph under 'Menu Creation'.

Best I can think of. I use a folder on a media player to store/play that many clips, or simply link the computer to the TV via the HDMI.
It's much more convenient. -
Vegas works with DVD Architect (comes with it) while making DVD.
First You create script that sets markers at the begining of each clip
http://forums.creativecow.net/thread/24/903750 copy into clipboard, paste it into txt file name it something.cs or something.js not sure, put that file into Script menu folder, where your Vegas is.
Restart Vegas, run script,... tools/scripting ...then you export movie for DVD Architect as DVD compliant (Render As/MainConcept mpeg2,.., DVD Architect NTSC video stream ) and check "save project Markers in media file" then you export Dolby digital AC3 studio
Those two files import into DVD Architect, chapters will be recognized, but remember, there is 99 chapters maximum per movieLast edited by _Al_; 9th Jan 2012 at 14:19.

Thanks again for the very specific info about Vegas. I will try to look at that again tonight after the kids go to bed. I do have an HTPC connected to the TV, but these files are taking up 400GB (which is fine on my NAS but I don't have that kind of space on the HTPC and my NAS is too slow to stream from) and more importantly..... my parents want copies and we need to stick copies in the safety deposit box as well (along with the DVs at least until the day rolls along where there is a more permanent archival medium than DVD that's widely available for cheap).
