  1. I am trying to burn an AVI file to DVD with 720 x 304 (2:35:1) settings but the encoded file come out elongated and distorted. Is there some way to lock the Video perimeter setting to keep it at its original aspect ratio when encoding to DVD ffmpeg settings? I have it set to 2:31:1 (keep height), but it still doesn't seem to work. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

Set video output aspect ratio to "DVD 16:9".
Set option Decode with QT. Set Letterbox.

Those settings would keep original aspect ratio like this: a 2.35:1 picture in a 16:9 frame.

(Depending on how the AVI was encoded, you may need to install Perian for "Decode with QT" to work correctly. In any case, Perian won't hurt anything, but will expand QuickTime's capability when needed, including when ffmpegX "asks" QuickTime to read the source file.)

  3. Thanks for the information and I'm glad my post made sense. I will try that. I do have Perian installed so it should work fine with QT.

  4. I notice it is being saved as an .mpv file. Will I be able to burn that to DVD?

That is just an intermediate file (the video of the movie). ffmpegX will use that later.
First the video gets converted, then the audio, then these are muxed into an .mpg file, then that is used to make the VIDEO_TS folder.

  7. It finished and saved as a mpg and VIDEO_TS folder. Worked fine. Thanks for the tip.
