Hi,
I'm quite new to video converting stuff, so forgive my ignorance.
I own a Samsung LED tv (UE37D5720), which has a (very picky) build in media player.
It has the ability to play .VOB files, but it skips for a few seconds when changing to
the next VOB.
So I tried joining the VOB with copy / b VTS_01_1.VOB +VTS_01_2.VOB JOINED.VOB etc. etc.
But for some reason the VOB file gets corrupted when I try to play it.
Also program like VOBMERGE didn't help
So I decided to use MKVTOOLNIX to convert the .VOB files to .MKV (using MKVGUI2 or whatever it's called.)
I selected only main movie, and DTS sound.
It plays perfectly, but unfortunately I cannot fast forward or rewind. Also when I quit watching, and try to continue later, I get no option to start from the point I quit watching.
With other downloaded MKV files I am able to rewind, fastforward.
Any idea's ??

Thank you for your suggestion (very much appreciated). I will look into that program.
But I still would like to fix the problem with self created MKV files.
I don't get why other MKV files work, and mine doesn't -
You could try MakeMKV and see if works any better than MKVtoolnix.
But I guess your tv has problems with mkv with mpeg2 video. -
mpeg2 in vob is not same as mpeg2 in mkv.
And if you use mkvtoolnix be sure to disable header compression(File->Options->Disable header removal compression by default). BUt I don't know if it will help with fast forward issues though. -

I'm back
So the first thing I'm trying is, is the latest version of MKVTOOLNIX.
Haven't viewed the outputted file on my TV yet, but something strange is going on.
I cannot disable / enable header compression !
I made a little vid of the problem.

On a side-note. When I thought the 'copy /b' command was the best way for me,
I started building a (CA Clipper, yes very old DOS Era) program to create a batchfile for me
to automate the process.
It basically saves you from typing long commands like copy /b VTS_01_01.VOB+VTS_01_02.VOB+VTS_01_03.VOB+VTS_01_0 4.VOB "Harry Potter 4.VOB"
It was for my own personal use, but I was wondering if there's anyone else interested in the
program after I fine tuned it ? Like I said it doesn't even work in my particular case, but if someone
else would like to use it, I'll continue it.
A little preview:

PS.
The video skip a few frames -
Well.. I'm back. Like I said in my first post my tv is really picky. But something strange is going on.
Now the VOB's converted to MKV with the latest version of MKVTOOLNIX plays like a charm !!
I can ffw / rwd now !
The one created with MakeMKV freaks out when I het FFW and goes back to the 'system menu', so
MakeMKV doesn't work for me.
Now the strange part.....
The MKV that previously wouldn't FFW / RWD it suddenly does too !
The only thing that has changed that I deleted the corrupted big VOB that was in the same directory...
Very very odd...
Maybe it's time to buy a standalone mediaplayer...
