    Hey

I have been transferring my dvds via handbreak in a MKV container to play on my media player which is an astone a-300. The Files play perfecty but if i try to skip into the movie using the time code the movie continues in fast-forward. I have herd handbreak 0.9.5 will cause this problem if you do not choose the FPS of the input and leave it to automatic as per this post. http://www.mede8erforum.com/index.php?topic=4944.0 . I have no idea how to fix this issue i thought if i remuxed the file with mkvtoolnix and set the FPS that way it would fix the problem but to no avail. Any help would be great.

  2. are you using variable frame rate ?

take one of the handbrake encoded files, use mediainfo (view=>text) and copy & paste the info back here

I think when you enter the FPS manually "same as source", it will be CFR instead of VFR

you can also try setting shorter keyframe distance (many devices and media players have issues with seeking with long keyframe distance)

Hey, yeah the files have been encoded using variable frame rate although i did not think this was an option in Handbrake ? as i just leave it on Same as source. Is there anyway to change this from VFR to CFR with out re-encoding. Also how would one go about setting shorter keyframe distances ? would this require re-encoding also ? Thaks for the prompt reply.

  4. You cannot change VFR=>CFR or keyframe distance without re-encoding

I'm just guessing that's what is happening with your media player

You can do some small tests samples to confirm/reject this

I think you are pretty correct on what the problem is i had problems with this befour using PS3 media server although it just would not display the content at all. It seems to work semi okay if i fast forward the movie as soon as it starts then i can skip as much as i want. I think i might leave them for now i dont feel like re doing 30 odd movies with any luck the firmware on the media center will get some improvements. Vlc should honestly make a VLC box / media player . Thanks very much
