Hey. I'm getting on the "I need to convert my old vhs tapes" boat a little late, but I know it's time. I've started to notice the effects of time of my beloved old vhs tapes. I'm new to capturing so I've tried to read everthing I can about it on the site. I've gotten a much better idea of what I need to do, but some areas are still a little fuzzy. I'm ready to take the first step and order a capture device; however, I'm overwhelmed by the huge amount of choices. I've read countless reviews and threads on capturing devices, but I still don't know which one will best suite my needs. I was hoping some of you guys could help me out.
Sorry, but this part might be a little unorganized. I'm just trying to get all the infomation out .I don't have a huge stack of tapes to convert. It's only about 20 so I don't want to spend a fortune. About half of my tapes are home videos and the other half are hollywood movies that never made it to dvd (so I'll have to deal with macrovision). I want to convert at good quality but I'm on a tight budget so I'll sacrifice a LITTLE quality for a more economical option. I want to do some editing to the captured video (add chapters and a menu). I want to put the captured video on dvd but this is more of a side project. It is most important to me to have to video backed up digitally.I have a JVC VP-780U VCR and a Magnovox MWD2205 VCR/DVD combo. I was hoping I could use these and save some cash. Hard drive space is not a problem for me; I've got a ton of it. I was looking at buying a canopus advc100 off ebay but I dont want to spend the money on the necessary (according to some people) TBC. I'll take any suggestions. Thanks in advance.
