Hi,
I'm a novice who bought a Canon HV30 HDV for home movies. I have a Windows 7 64 bit, Intel Quad 2.5GHz (Q8300), with ATI Radeon 4350. I foolishly looked at the DV requirements for Adobe Premiere when I purchased it and now realize I don't have the computing power for HDV (need 3.4 GHz which seems like a lot).
Question is are there other comparable software packages out there for reasonably basic film editing for HDV, or do I have to purchase a more powerful computer? This would be for family use so not intensive.
Thanks.
John

i haven't looked recently but my guess would be the 3.4ghz refers to a single processor cpu. a quad 2.5 should be fine. my q6600 quad runs premiere pro with HDV just fine.

Hi,
I am having issues processing the video (very slow, stalls a lot). Might it be my video card (ATI Radeon 4350)? I seem to have enough memory per their requirements.
Thanks a lot for your response.
Cheers,

There must be another reason, your computer/gfx card should be fine
How do you have your HDD's set up? 1 for OS/page file, 1 for programs, 1 for files ? or some other arrangement? -
Are you using Premiere Elements? I found that I had a lot of trouble with stuttering video if it was unrendered. Once I rendered the video (just push enter with the "My Project" panel selected) I had no problems with stuttering video.
Also, if you are using Elements, it may be beneficial to you to right click on the "Monitor" panel, select "Playback Settings," then under "Realtime Playback", select the drop-down box next to "Aspect Ratio Conversion" and select "Hardware". You've got a pretty decent video card, so that may help.
