I have a couple of DVDs that I copied from DirecTV, 60 min each. I plan to use excerpts for a class I'm teaching, but I'd like to reasonably remove the commercials, so I don't have to FF over them. Is there any too that might be helpful to this end? I'm using Vegas 9.0 on Win 7. Even knocking out 80 to 90% of the commercials would be helpful.

VideoRedo will do a fine job but, it's not free.

OK, I've been away for awhile and now an ready to try to edit a DVD. It's pretty simply constructed. I recorded a hour program from DirecTv, then created a DVD with my Panasonic DVR. When it comes up to view, a window appears with about 6 rectangles. One of the rectangles shows the first frame of the video. If I click on it, the video begins. Simple.

I decided to try DVD Shrink 3.2. I watched a little of the beginners DVD Guide. It looks like shrink only is capable of re-arranging and selecting Titles, and creating a new DVD from them. What I want to do is go through the one hour program and edit out commercials. I see some choices above. Which will do what I want? I don't think shrink is going to work for me.

  7. Sure it can. Save out each segment one at a time with Start/End Frames function. Then reauthor all together.

As far as I can tell, there is one Title (segment?) and one Menu section. I displayed them with Re-Author.

There's some sort of play window in the bottom left, but it does not seem to operate smoothly. I can sort of play things, mostly the menu, but a red square above the window appears. I guess I'm supposed to press it to record, but I see no way to edit anything, just select Titles and move them into an area on the left side of the screen.

See <http://www.dvdshrink.info/reauthor_basic.php>, and press Next about five times, and you will see what's happening. They move title1 to the DVD Structure area, the another.

If all else fails, I can play the dvd on my portable dvd player, then pipe it into my video camera. From there into the PC, and Vegas. An hour of elapsed time.
