I want to transfer my shows to my PC and edit out the commercials with as little loss of quality as possible.

I tried the trial version of VideoReDo Plus, but the cost is $50.

If I use a program to convert the .TIVO files once there on my PC to AVI or MPG, edit out the commercials with software I already have, and burn them to a disc or transfer them back to .TIVO files and put them back on the TIVO box, will I lose more quality then I would with VideoReDo Plus?

I already have Womble MPEG Video Wizard.

As far as I know you could use directshow dump to extract the mpeg from the .tivo file (shouldn't be any loss of quality) and then cut commercials out of new mpeg with mvw.

But if you are going to be doing a lot of this videoredo plus would be a worthwhile purchase.

I don't think I'll be doing it often enough where the extra time using two applications instead of one would be too much trouble. My biggest concern is loss of quality.

I haven't done it but as far as I know direct show dump doesn't convert anything. It just extracts the mpeg from the .tivo file. Shouldn't affect the quality at all. If I'm wrong I hope someone corrects me.

Directshow dump is kind of hard to find. I don't think it is developed any more but you can get it here.

My suggestion is to try it and see if it is acceptable to you. The only thing it will cost you is time.
