video source: gaming console through composite AV cable
capture card: EasyCap DC60, only supports 4:3 aspect
I am trying to capture 16:9 videos from source, but my capture card is cheap 20 bucks and the driver update is only available for the next version of this series.
I remember when I view the video from preview pin, I can see video added with black bars from above and below so that the preview can show me the wide screen source video. but when I tried to capture the video, the actual video was recorded without the black bars and it forces 16:9 to 4:3 video, and I hate it. I know I can use later use resize filter to upscale the video, but information maybe lost from the resizing and I want to keep the video as true to source as possible before I edit it.
can virtualdub force recording the wide screen signal with black bars above and below so that even though my capture card doesn't support it, I can bypass this limitation?
I also remember there is a way to add in 16:9 aspect flag even though the video dimension was not wide screen, but I don't know how to do it in virtualdub either.

You want it to record without black bars i.e. anamorphic. Otherwise you'll be losing tons of resolution and double-barring the footage when viewed on a 16:9 monitor.
You can easily flag it if you're encoding after capturing.
