    I wouldn't use anything that uses Quicktime components. They completely screws up levels.

    Agreed. x264 is both FASTER, and MUCH BETTER quality than the h.264 codec used in Quicktime. Once it's an h.264/MP4, it's easy to re-wrap/transcode that to QT/MOV (with no loss).

    x264 is a command line program. There are many graphic front ends like xvid4psp, handbrake, megui, etc.
