It's beginning to look like were going to so after them sometime soon. Like all these things we will need a catchy new name for it. I really hate the names "Enduring Freedom", etc. I would have preferred something like "Operation Kill Osama Bin Laden", or something similiar. Now for this new one against Iraq I want everyone to post their suggestions, Here is mine:
Operation Finish the Job

okay mr linguist, d4n31l, what the hell is
"sic transit gloria mundi"
I assume gloria is glory or maybe pride
otherwise I give.
I'm assuming latin here just by the way it is done, but that's just a guess. -
You are right, it is a Latin phrase 8). I forgot the name of the guy who originally coined the phrase (as you guessed literature isnt a strong point of mine - i also forgot the name of the book!), but he was commenting on the the transitory nature of human vanities. The phrase is also used at the coronation of the Pope I believe.
In English, it roughly translates to:
"so passes away the glory of the world".
Sorry dude, but there isnt any glory in what I said. I find war abhorrent. -
I was just saying that I noticed that it appeared to be glory. I personally hate war and all it stands for as well. I believe any intelligent person would not care for war or anything it offers. Thanks for the translation though. LOL. I like something jackie chan said in an interview one time. Basically if he could have one wish, he would stop all the fighting and bickering between us humans and unify us. With all the natural disasters we have to deal with as well as diseases and etc, why do we fight among ourselves as well.

OPERATION, ABOUT TIME.
They should turn the middle east into a dust bowl.take all the oil and turn the fuckin Arabs into dog meat, these Bastards haven't paid enough!!!! -
Biffos, I am sorry, but you have to be one of the most ignorant people that i have ever heard on these forums. Do you even have the slightest understading of the Middle East? If you could even point to Iraq on a world map, I would be surprised. Perhaps its two bit hicks like you that should be turned into dogmeat, as well as the terrorists.

-
bbb- your quote from Edwin Star i have to disagree with. i admit war is not good but there has to be some kind of authority to keep things in check and keep chaos from running rampant thoughout the world........

What did the Operation Dessert Storm effectively do to Saddam?
He's still in power. No one is in position to topple him. He still has plenty of cash, luxuries, hideouts, Saddam decoys. The embargo only hurts the powerless, penniless civilians.
So much for coercive diplomacy and war. If you studied coercive diplomacy, you will soon realize that it fails most of the time, leading to the eventuality of war. War against Middle Eastern countries only furthers/escalates the animosities between the Muslim community and the U.S.+Allies. With their fervid religious ideologies, do you think another round of bombs, smart weapons, and sanctions "will teach them a lesson?"
War and Coercive diplomacy are outdated concepts. Economic engagement and entrance into the global economic system would do much more to discourage Middle Eastern leaders from attacking their trade partners. A more capitalistic economy will also lessen the adherance to their religious doctrines thereby, making the people of the Middle East more mentally in line with modern societies. -

1. What did the Operation Dessert Storm effectively do to Saddam?
It removed his forces from Kuwait, and limited his ability to wage war.
This was the goal, though it appears it is now time to remove him from power
2. War and Coercive diplomacy are outdated concepts.
War is why the Afghan people now have the prospect of freedom for the first time in decades.
Coercive diplomacy is why Pakistan is our ally, not our enemy.
As for using capitalism to lessen adherence to their religious doctrines; capitalism will fund their endeavors - it does now!
Throughout history, war has been waged for 3 major reasons:
1. Aggression for the acquisition of land or other property (slavery included).
2. Aggression for political or other ideological reasons.
3. The halting of aggression (including preemptive).
Reasonable people, no matter what ideology, are just that…reasonable.
Those who are not, cannot be coerced diplomatically, or economically.
These governments don’t want the people to prosper, as they would loose control over them. Poverty breeds dependence, and religion (in this case) is used as the controlling force.
We have but two choices:
1. Allow aggression from the “UNREASONABLE”.
2. Halt aggression.
It is not the current role of the U.S. government to help the Middle East in becoming “mentally in line with modern societies”.
The role of the U.S. government is to “provide for the common defense”. -

Your right on two accounts, If I had my way Iraq woudn't be on the world map, I would have put it in the atmosphere. And glad to see that you agree terrorist should be turned into dog meat! your getting there thick shit.
Remember these bastards want to kill every one of us, black ,white , green , yellow. doesn't matter. So burn these bastards first, give them all something ******* hot very hot, I want to see the skin peeling of these murdering bastards........they just ain't paid enough!!!!!!!!!!1 -
