  1. Dear mensches,

I'm a third-year student. Our subdepartment works on compression and processing video. We have a tradition: the first product is a free VirtualDub filter. I wanna create something that people will really use for their purposes! And maybe one day someone will thank me and you (as my inspirer ).

I'm here to ask you about problems you have editing videos. Maybe you or your friend work in a special field ( underwater filming for instance ) and need special processing.

I know that stereo is being really popular now. And as it's a new field it must contain a lot of unsolved problems. It would be nice to know more about them.

Problems connected with 3D and object detection are highly recommended!

By the way, I suggest you take a look on my elder colleagues' filters. Here's a link: http://compression.ru/video/index.htm

    Thanks in advance!

  3. Thanks a lot!

Duplicate frames and incorrect frame rate are my very now problems! My new digital camera produces strange artifacts by inserting duplicate frames and it seems to me it messes neighbour frames order. I'm writing an AVISynth script right now. Maybe it's a good idea to create some smart corrector! Thanks)

I'm not really interested in VHS tapes! I consider it as a thing of the past!

To tell the truth, I'd like to work on sth new and promissing!

Thanks again, I'll look through yout list once more a bit later.

AVISynth script for duplicate frames didn't really work. The cause of the dup frames are many, if you are using windows 7, you may need change up your system config.

Well VHS or old tapes may be a thing of the past, but most of the digital stuff really doesn't need restore work. Unless somebody didn't know what they are doing and messed up the Video file......However it happens

Pretty much everything that is old (As little as a few years ago) is either on film or some kind of tape. Betacam tapes that the networks used will have similar problems to a VHS tape.

In a sense if you can fully restore a problem child VHS tape, it allows you to be able to learn the skill set to fix up other type of recordings.

One last thing of note: Watched Ghostbusters on TBS about 1 month ago, the broadcast on TV had so many white spec drop outs in the recording. It was like how did this movie ever get sent to a major network with so many errors.

Watched Blame it on Rio the HD ver from my On Demand, that video was 100% Out of Sync with the Audio and had major "Macro Blocking" issues with in the video itself.

Some of the old Bruce Lee Movies more than likely need a full restore job.....

    I'll chime in...

If you can create a free tool that will do what Video Enhancer claims to do, a lot of people here will hail you as a hero.

    filmboss80,

I just looked at that tool, it is only $40.

Not really sure what the point of it is. It is to restore FLV files? Cause video shouldn't look that poor.

Don't know...think u can do this using good hardware. AKA a good DVD Player with Upconvert features than running the video through some filters and re-recording it.

It just seems that everyone wants the magic button to convert 720x480 to HD......

He's talking about VideoEnhancer's super resolution filter.

A free noise reduction filter like Neat Video would be nice too.

Precisely. No one said those aforementioned tools were not affordable. It would just be very nice to see some freeware alternatives crop up--as they have with many other types of video and audio software tools.

    i second these two suggestions.

and if you can gpu accelerate them via open cl or dx compute (so that they work with all video cards) that would be killer.
