  1. I was always thinking of Womble MPEG2VCR as to be the best SVCD cutter, since it is frame presize and reports projected file size, also it has no desync problems etc. But recently I'm having a strange problem with it.

I take a 1,4 GB MPEG-2 file. No matter at what point I choose to split it, I get two files of 2,1GB or so total size. This isn't happenning with files encoded with CCE, but only with TMPEG encoded ones. Even stranger is the fact that if I use TMPEG to split (which I try to avoid) total sum of two files is very near 1,4GB.

MPEGs are always VBR. CCE settings are kept to DVD2SVCD standards but I choose "Make closed GOP" option at TMPEG as it presumably helps with editing. I have tried changing some MPEG2VCR options but had no luck.

    Any thoughts on this?
    Cheers to all.

It is not only with TMPGenc files that problem, it is a problem in general!
My source is DVB transmissions, as is from the satellites. Split them with mpeg2vcr and you get HUGE outputs...
The same with mpeg 2 from flask...
The only solution I have to offer, is using tmpgenc to remux/demux the splited files.

The reason mpeg2vcr have this problem, has to do with the padding it adds to the mpeg file. I don't know why that it is not happening with CCE files...
Maybe there are some flag tags in the gop or timestamps... Who knows.
Demux/remux with tmpgenc (or bbmpeg) and you have no problems...

  3. So, this is kind of a bug or something.. Too bad, I was hoping for a way around it as I really like MPEG2VCR.

I don't like cutting with TMPEG as it takes more of a wild guess as to where it chooses to cut. bbMPEG is even worse... Also I don't demux/remux, just cut it straight. What trouble might arise if I skip demuxing/remuxing? I haven't noticed desync it cutted MPEGs, for one.

And then, what about M2-Edit? Is it making huge files when cutting as well?

    I don't use m2 - edit, I can't buy all the editors out there.
I am a straight legal user
But from what other people report about it, ain't worth it.

Also, I mean to demux/remux the cutted files with tmpgenc. It takes about 30 sec for a 792MB file
