I have a quick question concerning an AVI file that I'm having a problem converting. Let me state that I have used AVStoDVD many times before with no problems. This one is causing me some trouble though.
It's "MovieTitle #1.avi", 1.51 GB. The problem seems to be during HCenc's second pass. The encoding enters this phase, and I'm not sure if it ever finishes because the next time I come back to my computer, there is a message stating that the expected length does not match the actual one (0:00:00) and "do I want to continue?". I have clicked yes and no, but obviously neither works out because the video encoding operations have gone awry.
Could it be that the video encoding takes more than 15 GB to process? That is how much free space I have on my hard drive right now. I have had good encodes with HCenc 2-pass before with the same amount of free space. I wonder why this one is giving me so much trouble? Any thoughts?

I've seen this occasionally, but likely on video files (not just AVI) that have little in common with this one. They're of various sizes, and no funky characters in the file name. In the most recent one, AVS did finish the encoding, though it came out at about 15 minutes shorter than it was supposed to be. (I've seen that happen with CX2D conversions also, btw.) Play the source file in VLC or WMP_HC and it plays out at the full length. I suppose there must be something that is a bit off with the file, but I'm still wondering just what that might be.
When in Las Vegas, don't miss the Pinball Hall of Fame Museum http://www.pinballmuseum.org/ -- with over 150 tables from 6+ decades of this quintessentially American art form. -
AVStoDVD makes use of MediaInfo library to detect media file properties. MediaInfo relase prior 0.7.41 sometimes had problems with large mpeg2 PS files. Release 0.7.41, which is included in AVStoDVD 2.3.4, should have fixed that, or at last I have no more encountered the 0 timelength issue.
If you still get that error message, I suggest to continue the project anyway: video encoding, the longer step, has completed, you are just very close to the end. Go ahead and check directly on output DVD if everything is ok.
I believe that one warning message more is better than no warnings and final "surprise"....

I had downloaded two .avi versions of the same movie: the DivX one to which I have already referred, and an Xvid one. I took the special characters out of the file name, but no joy. So I tried the second file. No problems, great encode to DVD.
I thought that I had already played the first .avi file, but apparently I had only tried the second one. When I did play the first, it played alright in Winamp, but had a strange subtitle banner at the bottom of the viewing area running some unknown European language from right to left. Not at all like normal subtitles. So I deleted the file.
That is the only time I have ever had any problems with conversion using AVStoDVD, and I place the fault solely with the weird file I was trying to encode.
Anyway, thanks for all of the help.
