  1. Hi there,
I'm experiencing some problems working on an XviD file. This movie has a 2,35:1 Aspect Ratio (720 x 304) and, I need to letterbox it to 16:9 (720 x 405) in order to obtain a DVD-authorable file, 'cause none of the DVD authoring softwares I've tried (NeroVision, DVD Flick, DVD Styler, etc.) is good enough to work with a 2,35:1.
So, I tried VirtualDub and DivX 6.9.2 as a compressor. The resizing is perfect but, that's what I've got starting the conversion:

After this, I tried with XviD 1.2.2 but I've got the same error.
I tried several alternative video codecs either lossy and lossless as MSU, Toponoky, FastCodec, VSS, YuvSoft, etc. but I got the same error as above or huge files (up to 4, 5 GBs and more) after hours and hours (or predicted days) of work!
Some tips? Which kind of codec should I use and, last but not least, which settings?
    Greetings from Italy

Are you resizing to 720x405? Try use a resolution that is even dividable by 4 or better 16.

But a good dvd all-in-converter like avstodvd should resize to correct dvd resolution.

  3. HI Baldrick, thanks for your answer.
I didn't know AVStoDVD and it seems to be really a good software, but didn't work with this movie. The batch process aborted after a few moments of encoding by HCenc.
    Here's the log file:

  4. Hi Puppybarf,

what an horrible temporary file folder:

    "F:\DATS Works\# Working Dir #"

Go to 'Preferences'/'Paths' and select a temp folder with standard chars. Then retry. Let me know if that was the root cause.

    Bye

P.S. What part of Italy are you from?

  5. Hello MrC,
I'll try your tip and will make you know.
In the meantime, I have tried the authoring by QuEnc with the same temporary folder; the process has been completed regularly but, the resulting video is choppy (it doesn't play continuously but keeps stopping and starting every second).
    See you tomorrow.

P.S. - I'm from Benevento, do you know? Are you Italian too? Possiamo esprimerci in Italiano?

    P.S. #2 - Congratulations for your software

  6. I've just tried again with a "regular" folder and HCenc, but nothing changed. Same error as before.
