  1. Using an MKV file which has DTS audio on it can I create an AVI file and retain the DTS soundtrack? Will the regular demux convert and mux process work ?

What do YOU consider the "regular" demux and remux process ?

  3. Demux:Avimux gui--extract audio dts[or core dts],you can try mkv extract gui too.
Convert mkv to avi using any converter[ex:Xilisoft Hd Video converter].
Remux avi with dts using Avimux gui.
    Have a nice day,

  5. Thanks M, Noah. In fact that's exactly what I tried. I'm sorry but being the noob I am I omitted to mention that I am trying to play it on my standalone dvd player which is hooked up to an AV receiver. Both can decode dts. When I tried the process above I was able to view the video but coul not get the DTS audio.

I also tried the guide I found on the following link but that didnt work either. http://sharethefiles.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=24&t=18110

Are you sure your player can decode dts?
    Options:
1.If U're using Windows XP try to play your avi with dts in MP clasic...if it plays ok you have a go!
2.Make sure your dts is dts NOT dts ma.[use media info].
3.If it's a dts ma you need to extract dts core.....
4.If the dts is a normal dts and still doesn't play...well,here is the hardest way:
    -demux dts using Tranzgui
-remux the 6 mono wavs to dts using Minnetonka Surcode cd dvd or Arcsoft's suite[sellect dvd specs].
    -remux new dts with video
    That's it!
    Have a nice day,

  7. Hey M,

Cant thank you enuf for the prompt responses. This is my first try at all this and till a month back didnt have a clue as to what mux and demux were.

Are you sure your player can decode dts? Im pretty sure it can. Have been looking for the manual though and cant find it will recheck on the Sony website. I have played dvd's with DTS on it before but just in case there is a particular kind of DTS.

    Options:
1.If U're using Windows XP try to play your avi with dts in MP clasic...if it plays ok you have a go! Cant do that. My sound cards shot and thats why I started ripping these to discs to play them on the home theatre. In fact I wasted three dvdr's trying to rip this AVI with DTS. Plus I'm using windows 7

2.Make sure your dts is dts NOT dts ma.[use media info]. I did not do that, had no idea i needed to. Ive read something on the forums about decompression of the DTS audio is this what youre talking about too?

3.If it's a dts ma you need to extract dts core..... What would you recommend for extraction?

4.If the dts is a normal dts and still doesn't play...well,here is the hardest way:
    -demux dts using Tranzgui
-remux the 6 mono wavs to dts using Minnetonka Surcode cd dvd or Arcsoft's suite[sellect dvd specs].
    -remux new dts with video

Thanks a ton for the alternate idea too. I think its really great that you take the time to reply and that people like you who have the "know how" share.

Happy New Year by the way

  8. One other question, I hope thats ok cos I'd like to try and get this done one shot rather tham piecemeal.

If i have to demux and remux the DTS audio as mentioned in step 4, and then remux the AVI with the DTS audio thus created, will the resulting file play on a standalone player that can play regular avi files?

    Thanks again

  9. My apologies M, as the UB40 song goes "the more I learn, the less I know". If I create an avi with dts using either of the methods above will there be any sync issues?

I think thats all I can think of for now.

  10. If you have no soundcard you will work"blind".Please use a rewr cd or dvd.
To test if your player plays the dts file....just burn a rewr disk in data mode with your problematic dts and play it!.
If you're lucky your player goes in file mode reading and plays the file...and you can hear it....If your player plays the dts file it's 100% avi+dts should work too.
Anyway I strungly suggest step 4 too.
For extracting dts core you can use avimux guy or mkv extract guy+mkv toolnix or eac3 gui+Arcsoft's dts decoders.
Pat attention to dvd dts sound specs--use them when re-encoding dts stream[-google them].
When re-encoding no sound delay occurs....this is possible when transcoding[ex:from dts to ac3]
Have a nice day...FIRST WORK then Ask.

  11. Once again M thanks for the response and the advice about the rewr. That hadnt crossed my mind at all and I was expecting a few more DVD's to go.

I checked the manual of my DVD player, a Sony, and it said under DTS that make sure DTS was on only if connected to equipment that could decode DTS. But I have played DVDs with DTS on it before and my receiver to which the player is hooked up displays DTS.

Unfortunately I deleted the MKV with the DTS audio after wrecking the 3 discs and then smartly put the query on the forum. So I am dlng another DTS file to play with. Its the rock and roll hall of fame concert so Im hoping I get it working. 21 gigs of mkv with DTS so Im keeping my fingers crossed

Once again I appreciate your taking the time to help me sort this out. Have a good one.

  12. Ok,Jay.Finaly you gave me enough info.So:
1.Your concert is biig! This kind of mkv s should contain dts ma and maybe one more audio track too. You'll need to extract dts core[as earlyer advised],make your avi and remux audio[maybe you can skip section 4].
2.Your player is a cheap one[no offence].It can't decode dts or dts ma.You need to "bitstream" the audio to your receiver using a digital connection, and let him decode.
    Have a nice day

  13. Hey M,

    No offence taken chief. Have held off on the concert cos the bloody things only coming in at 30 - 50 kB/s and shows an ETA of 6 wks. Am downing "Step Up3d" for the wife the specs of which are as follows;

    DVD Date : 29 November 2010

  14. Hello M,

So the video is in and I have demuxed the audio stream. Media infor says it is DTS Es of the following specs; 1510 kbps,48.0khz, 24 bits 6 channel dts(es).

I am assuming based on this that I do not have to extract the core. Cos I sure as hell tried and I couldnt do squat. I am also unsure if I did something wrong in the process.

I tried with AVImux gui and EAC3to gui. Could you please please give me a step by step of how to extract the core. If I'm not asking for too much . I am encoding the video using Xilisoft and going to go ahead and mux the video and the DTS-es track and see if that works anyway and will let you know..

One question though does AVI limit your available resolutions cos Xilisoft didnt have anything above 726 x 562 If i remember correctly.

    Please help. Again
