I'd like that you guys tell me what is the best firewall in 2010. I currently use Sygate Pro on Xp, old firewall so i'd need an upgrade.
I'm looking for one with options such as advanced ports management and protection against malwares among other things, that would be nice

You might look into the freeware version of Comodo Firewall. It takes a bit of a while to get set up, but it's mostly automatic. I used Sygate with XP and liked it, but it won't work on Vista or W7, so I had to move on.

It's a shame that Lil' Snitch is Mac only. I rather like it.
I stopped using firewalls in Windows, instead editing my HOSTS file as needed.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I doubt it, but you could try. The basic problem is that it's old and there are no updates, AFAIK. I don't like the built in firewall on Vista or W7 as it never seemed to catch anything. Same with MS Defender. Both useless, IMO.
There are other freeware firewalls besides Comodo that also may work well for you. I use Avast and Comodo, along with Spyware Blaster and SpyBot S&D for protection and they all seem to work well with each other. Comodo has a learning setup that can be a bit of a pain till it gets tuned to your setup, but it does really well at blocking malware before it can damage your system. If you have kids that have a habit of messing up their (Or your computer) system, well worth considering all the protection you can.
I would also recommend something like Acronis True Image or similar to create a backup of the system for easy restoration in case of major damage to the OS and programs. It's a lot faster than reinstalling the OS and programs manually. -
when it comes to firewalls I pay for the pro/full version. Back when sygate was around I paid for their pro version which gave quite a number of added options to play with and it still works well (I am still on xp). Eventually I will be forced over to win7 and will check out comodo

I was looking at Commodo, but web page says XP/SP2. Does that mean it has a problem with SP3?
-
No I've used Comodo for years. SP3 has been fine with it on my rigs.

Unfortunately, that does nothing from stopping a virus/worm from still connecting to the internet. Editing the HOSTS file only stops your browser from connecting to bad websites. If you ever do get a virus/worm on your system, it would be free to connect to the internet if your AV doesn't find it first. I currently use Avast AV, PrevX SafeOnline scanner and Online Armor firewall.
Go here to check your current firewall state with ShieldsUP.

I don't do anything stupid that would land me with malware, so it's really a non-issue.
I scan from time to time, and it's always nothing.
Sunbelt Kerio was last one I used, the paid pro version.
I'd suggest Paragon Drive Backup for system backup. Or Acronis.Want my help? Ask here! (not via PM!)

I basically am the same. However, I have occasionally found my computer slowing down and when I am doing nothing, I notice that the drive is being accessed or I notice (on my router) a lot of action going on through the router. I installed the basic free version of Zone Alarm. It goes through a learning process and only lets programs I OK to access the network. I can do it on a onesy basis or to remember (like Outlook) the answer. Once I have done that, I don't have random things happen anymore.

... "a good firewall for 2010" ...
I went to www.belkin.com website and it wouldn't release my computer. I went to my firewall to block all IN/OUT traffice, and belkin was still sending. it finally decided to release after 5 minutes. So, I go back into again thinking that it might have been temporary, (legit, that is) but shore enought it did it again. I'm starting to believe that firewalls are a waist of time because trusted companies that build these (internet) things know the ins/outs (backdoors, thanks m$) among other things. I was only able to see this nonense thanks to my hardware lights on my serial modem. Yeah, they turned off my software lights in my system tray where I like to see my internets in/out happenings. I just don't know anymore.
I was trying to obtain info on how to reset the internal broswer to this link: 192.168.2.1 because it won't response in the browser (I screwed something up) instead it gives my explorer an error, "cannot display webpage" so now i can't see my routor and wifi. I tell you, I have nothing but problems with my nebook, win7se, routor setup and wifi.
